Anthurium Care Instructions
Beautiful. Bold. Alive.
Light:
Anthurium are a true LOW LIGHT PLANT. They don't want to be in your south facing window. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves. Anthuriums thrive with dappled morning or evening light. T5 lights are strong enough to power all phases of growth for an anthurium.
Water:
Allow the plant to lose about 70% of its water in its soil. Water thoroughly, but don’t let the plant sit in standing water. Anthuriums prefer consistent moisture, not soggy soil.
Humidity:
High humidity (60%–80%) is best for lush growth and vibrant foliage. Use a humidifier or place near other plants to maintain a tropical microclimate. If higher levels of humidity are unobtainable, semi hydroponic grow set ups work very well (pon, leca, etc).
Temperature:
Keep temperatures between 62-77°F. Anthurium enjoy evening drops in temperature to help express color in their vibrant emergent leaves. Avoid cold drafts or sudden temperature drops or spikes.
Soil:
Use a chunky, well-draining mix — think orchid bark, perlite, and peat moss. Anthuriums love airflow around their roots.
Fertilizer:
Feed diluted fertilizers every watering with a balanced fertilizer like Superthrive 9:3:6, Jacks 20-20-20 or similar. Cal Mag and myco supplementation has proven to be successful in my growing experience.
